In Castles & Canaries, you play an imaginary character in a fictional setting. You decide how your character acts and responds to the world around them.
As with many tabletop role-playing games, Castles & Canaries has a flow that follows this basic cycle:
1. A Game Master (GM) describes a situation or scene.
2. Players declare actions they wish for their character to do.
3. The outcome of the action(s) is determined and the GM narrates the results.
While playing the game, the GM acts as the arbiter of the rules. Their role is to determine outcomes of actions. There will be times where a particular action or set of actions does not have a predefined algorithm for determining an outcome. Players must trust their GM to set a fair method for determining said outcome. If they don’t trust their GM, they need to find a new GM.
At minimum, you will need 4d6 and a d20. Some spellcasters may also need a d4.
